La Madre y La Medicina Retreat

Join us as we create sacred space and together, where we will:

  • explore and deepen our relationships to Our Lady of Guadalupe-Tonantzin and the divine within each of us

  • and consider how Guadalupe-Tonantzin can support us in living our purpose and being of service to our communities in these times.

Through contemplative exercises such as somatic movement, “spirit story” writing, and autohistoria reflections we will connect with the body, spirit, and heart. We will pláticar - talk with one another and share and build collective knowledge - in a supportive and inclusive group environment.

During this retreat you will:

  • learn how Chicanas, Mexican American women involved in the Texas Civil Rights movement and social justice efforts since the 1960s, have brought Our Lady of Guadalupe into their life and work.

  • apply relevant teachings to your life and path as you connect more deeply to and create ways to express your inner wisdom and wield the unique power only you possess.

  • learn about and build upon the wisdom of spiritual activists from the movement era.

  • bridge your culture and your questioning; merge your roots with your calling.

  • reclaim and restructure ritual in your daily life, with real effects.

  • come to know Our Lady of Guadalupe on your own terms and expand your relationship to her as Tonantzin.

  • lean into your medicine with guidance from Guadalupe-Tonantzin, Brenda, and in the community.

You’ll leave our time together with a renewed understanding of the possibilities and potential for tapping into the Divine Feminine through Our Lady of Guadalupe and a set of rituals unique to your path, your truth, and your devotion to La Madre that can sustain the relationship you are (re)building with her in these times.

Heal the Inner Split and (Re)claim Your PowerThrough the Divine Feminine

For changemakers ready to awaken their medicine and excavate their vast power to create meaningful change within themselves and the world around them.

A deep dive retreat featuring Our Lady of Guadalupe - Tonantzin

Monday, December 8 | 9 am - 12 pm CST | Zoom

Led by Brenda Sendejo, PhD | Practitioner-Scholar of Spiritual Activism

This retreat is for you if:

→ You feel called to serve others by sharing your unique gifts—whether through the cultural and/or healing arts, education, community organizing, or related fields.

→ You feel disconnected from your truth or long to deepen your connection to it and to the Divine Feminine.

→ You recognize a need for self/soul care.

→ You have an existing relationship or felt connection with Our Lady of Guadalupe/Tonantzin.

→ You see yourself as someone who questions the status quo and seeks deeper truth.

→ You are open to learning about the silenced and erased histories of Guadalupe/Tonantzin and decolonial practices, histories, and initiatives to reclaim her.

→ You have experienced marginalization related to one or more of your identities.

→ You seek community and want to help build it through trust, vulnerability, and presence.

→ You feel called to be of service to the collective—especially in this moment.

This is not for you if:

→ You do not have an established relationship or connection to Our lady of Guadalupe and/or Tonantzin (I look forward to offering introductory sessions about Guadalupe/Tonantzin in the future. This particular offering  is for those who were raised with her in their lives and/or have come to know her).

→ You are not comfortable exploring Our Lady of Guadalupe outside of the context of organized religion.

→ You are not comfortable discussing the varying relationships people have to organized religion.

→ You are not comfortable exploring the flexibility and varying meanings that have been attributed to Guadalupe/Tonantzin, such as activist, protectress, or feminist and through various artistic renditions of her that fall outside of the traditional representation of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The circle is forming now, and the energy is building.

Hello! I’m so glad you’re considering joining this special gathering. It is deeply close to my heart—as a devotee of Guadalupe-Tonantzin and as someone whose reconnection with her has been powerful and life-changing.

Since 2012, I’ve written, taught, and published about Our Lady of Guadalupe-Tonantzin. I continue to learn about and from her. Today I support others in building their own relationships with her. My forthcoming book explores how she has walked beside and been a constant source of love and inspirtation for a group of Chicana spiritual activists from the movement era. I can’t wait to share the wisdom of the women featured in it during our retreat!

Please feel free to reach out with any questions about this inaugural retreat, where we will honor the Divine within us and explore the many ways she can walk alongside us in our lives today.
